Did you know that you can apply for tax amnesty to the Kenya Revenue Authority ( KRA ) through the iTax?.

Accessible through the iTax portal, these guidelines give the process for individuals and business alike to apply for the tax waiver.

First, taxpayers are encouraged to log on to the iTax portal and navigate to the debts and enforcement menu.

After that individuals are supposed to select the ‘iTax Application’ option.

How to Apply for KRA Tax Amnesty on iTax

KRA Tax Amnesty Application Steps

Once initiated, taxpayers are guided through a series of selections, beginning with the identification of the specific tax obligation, such as Value Added Tax (VAT), under section ‘A’.

The system automatically populates relevant details pertaining to the selected obligation.

Users then have the option to add all undisputed obligations and proceed to ‘Section B’.

In the subsequent step, taxpayers can propose the number of instalments and their frequency, with the system computing the amount per instalment accordingly.

By agreeing to the terms and conditions and submitting the application, taxpayers complete the process.

Upon submission, the iTax system generates an acknowledgment of the amnesty application, outlining the agreed-upon terms and payment plan.

To fulfill their obligations, taxpayers can easily generate a payment slip for the respective tax obligation and period through the iTax platform.

Mode of Payment

Payments can be made via bank transfer or Mpesa Paybill 222222.

Once payments are received and processed by the iTax system, taxpayers will receive confirmation, and their dues will be appropriately vacated, providing them with a fresh start in their tax compliance journey.

This initiative by the KRA aims to encourage voluntary compliance, alleviate the burden of outstanding tax liabilities, and foster a culture of transparency and accountability among taxpayers.

With the streamlined process available through iTax, individuals and businesses can navigate their tax responsibilities with greater ease and efficiency, contributing to the overall economic growth and development of the nation.

The finance Act, 2023 introduced the tax amnesty programe that could allow taxpayers to apply for waiver of penalties and interest accrued for periods up to December 31, 2022.

The tax amnesty was to run from September 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.
